We're on a roll!

I'm so excited; Camila rolled from her tummy to her back this morning! She's so funny, as she fusses and complains on her belly, but as soon as she rolled over she stopped. She looks up at us in surprise, like she's thinking "how did that happen?" But we fear little Camila has now figured out how to get out of tummy time! She had her 4 month appt this week (and 4 month shots!) She's growing right on track (not too fast as the GI doc had said.) She's 14 lbs, 6 oz, and 24 inches. Her Pedi says she's doing great, that we don't need to stress so much about her sleeping in her swing, as she'll let us know when it's not comfortable for her anymore (which hopefully won't be until after Rita leaves so we can move her to her crib!) Funny thing, I don't think her Pedi even read the letter from the GI doc, as he never brought it up! We talked about solids, but all agree that we'd rather wait until she's 6 months. With all of Fabricio's allergies, we don't want to run the risk of her developing food allergies. We're in no rush! She's also surprised us by putting herself to sleep a few times. She's put herself down for a couple of naps, and also did at night a couple of times. It really relieves our fear that we were ruining her sleeping "skills" by everything we had to do to get her to sleep! She seems to be a great sleeper, as she's slept through the night again the past few nights. Last night it was from 8:45-7:45am! Well, except for Tues night when she woke up at 11:45, 2:45, & 5:45am! We're pretty sure she had a belly ache and that kept waking her up, but I don't want to jinx anything. I'm sure we'll continue to go back and forth, and we'll just continue to take one night at a time!

4 months!

I can't believe that Camila is already 4 months old! The time has really gone fast, and I find myself mourning over the fact that she's no longer a tiny newborn. I have to remind myself that we have a lot of exciting things ahead of us! It's amazing, but when her reflux was at it's worst, the days crept by; every hour seemed like an eternity of torture. However, looking back at it now, THANKFULLY, those days seem like a lifetime ago! A few updates on Camila's new things: she's "talking" quite a lot, laughs a lot, leans forward to reach for things (but usually plops to the side!), and is making movements like she wants to roll over but just doesn't know how. She reaches for anything that I have in my hands, including pop cans, water bottles, etc. Yesterday at my parents she was trying to drink my Pepsi! (OK, I know she didn't know what she was doing, but it was fun to watch!) As a special treat to Fabricio and me today, after only waking up at 5:30 to eat (and going right back to sleep,) she didn't wake up again until 9:00am!!! I woke up around 8:00 thinking I should get up and do something productive, but decided that sleeping in was a rare treat and I was going to take advantage of it. :) This past week she was about 50/50 for sleeping through the night (sleeping thru to me means waking up at 5:00 but going back to sleep.) This morning was great! When doing her tummy time, she can't make up her mind if she wants to laugh or complain. She usually does a combo of both, which is hilarious to listen to. It's time for picture updates!

Just hanging out in her carseat. Thankfully, she doesn't cry much anymore. She enjoys looking out the window and at her reflection in the carseat mirror. Actually, she's quite a little flirt - with herself! She loves smiling at that baby in every mirror she sees.

Here she is "reading" Goodnight Moon. Fabricio and I read this every night I was pregnant, starting around 20 weeks. The funny thing is, she LOVES this book. I read it to her every night before bedtime. Even when she's fussing, I'll put the book in front of her and start reading, and she calms down immediately. I don't know if it's my voice, the pictures, or the fact that it's part of her bedtime routine - or all 3! - but it works!

This past Sunday (Feb 3) she started blowing raspberries back at us. I tried capturing it in this picture, but of course it's hard to get an "action shot". It's so much fun playing with her this way, but stand back, the spit flies (from her, not us!!) :)

Here's one with Fabricio pretending to let Camila listen to music on his computer. She's fascinated with the computer (and tv, cell phone, BlackBerry, etc) and loves to listen to music. We were trying to help her get through her evening crabbiness late last week, and this worked pretty well!

Her new way of sucking on her hand - she basically cups her tongue. :)

After her bath. Last Sunday (Feb 3) Camila started playing in the bathtub. She realized that if she kicks her feet, the water splashes. Bathtime is now one of her favorite times; she loves playing! The funny thing to us is that she has such a serious look of concentration when she's playing! We now give her baths more often, as it's also a great way to get through her evening crabbiness. :)

I think Camila knows when it's the weekend and her mom wants to sleep in. :) The past 2 weeks she's slept through the night Monday - Thursday nights (8:30-6:30 give or take 1 hour in the morning), but Friday, Saturday, and Sunday she's up at least once, sometimes twice! But at least we know she can sleep through the night more nights than not. Now if only we could start a better bedtime routine of putting her down drowsy but not asleep. Since she's still in our room while Fabricio's mom is here, we're not going to try it until we can put Camila in her crib, but I have to admit that we're both nervous we may end up waiting too long and it will be a struggle! She'll be 5 months by the time we even start putting her in her crib. We know it's difficult anyway, so we're worried that the fact she'll be older will make it that much harder. She goes down so easy now (I can get her sleeping for naps or bedtime in about 10 minutes, but I usually hold her another 15-20.) Plus, I don't mind holding her at night because I'm only home with her a 2 hours before she goes to bed each weeknight. That extra time is nice to snuggle and see her, even if she is sleeping!

I already mentioned a few other new things she's doing (playing in the tub, blowing raspberries.) She's also getting better at putting things in her mouth using both hands. She's starting to reach for objects as well. If we put something just in front of her, she'll lunge forward (while sitting up) to grab it. She's not rolling over yet, and it doesn't look like she will be anytime soon. Tummy time still isn't fun for her, but the past few days she just lies there munching on the mat. She doesn't all out cry anymore either while on her tummy, which is good! And her reflux seems to be getting much better, which makes all of us very happy! :) Fabricio's mom arrived this past Monday, but I'm afraid that Camila is making Abuelis Rita quite tired during the day! This little girl is a lot of work, but Abuelis Rita enjoys spending time with her!

Just today (which is actually Sunday, Feb 10, even though the blog date says Friday, Feb 8. I started uploading pictures on Friday, but just published this today) we noticed that Camila is very interested in watching us eat. I don't think we'll be starting her on solids quite yet, but it's great knowing that she's observing and is interested. (If I remember correctly, her Pediatrician likes to start babies on solids around 6 months. We have her 4 month appt coming up on Feb 21, so we'll discuss it then.)

Lastly, she just started loving to take her Prilosec! Starting Sunday, she sucks it down like there's no tomorrow. No crying whatsoever, and she actually acts like she wants more! Silly girl! :)
